St Albans District Volunteer Centre is here for all organisations that work with volunteers in St Albans District. We can help you recruit the volunteers that you need, and will also support and train you in the recruitment, management and retention of your volunteers. We also engage in wider promotion, campaigning and lobbying in issues around volunteering generally.
Volunteer recruitment
One of the primary functions of the Volunteer Centre is brokerage – matching volunteers to requests from organisations.
We place all requests for volunteers on our in-house database, V-Base, which is a powerful matching progamme used by our Volunteer Advisers during face-to-face interviews.
All the opportunities on our database are uploaded onto the National Volunteering Database, www.do-it.org.uk , once a week.
We run a weekly article in the St Albans Review, which can be used to draw attention to your request for help. There is a box to tick for this on our registration form.
We have a window display with specific requests and general information about volunteering.
We also have a permanent display in St Albans Central Library.
If anyone contacts us asking for more information, we will print out the information that we hold about your opportunity on V-Base. It is in your interests, therefore, to keep this information accurate and comprehensive, so that volunteers can make an informed choice.
Training and support
We offer training through the St Albans District CVS training programme in Volunteer Management. Good volunteer management is crucial, but doesn’t need to be overwhelming. Our training is practical, fun and reasonably priced – get in touch to find out more.
We run a quarterly volunteer co-ordinator network for anyone who manages or has responsibility for volunteers. Contact the Volunteer Centre Co-ordinator for more details.
The Volunteer Centre Co-ordinator is happy to meet with you to discuss any aspect of volunteer management.
How do I get started?
If you are new to us, the Volunteer Centre Co-ordinator is happy to meet and talk to you about what you need, and how we can best help you. Contact St Albans CVS set up an appointment.
