Be a 'buddy' and join our successful Supported Volunteering Project for adults with a learning disability. Due to the success of the project we have a number of potential volunteers who would like to volunteer within their local community but they need some extra support from someone like you!
As a volunteer buddy you will be involved in assisting Supported Volunteers in their chosen placements in various ways ranging from:
- supporting them to travel independently to/from placements
- attending their placement with them
- helping them to learn / maintain new skills
Could you help? Ring Michelle, CVS Supported Volunteering Worker, on 01727 852657 (Mon, Wed,Thurs,Fri) to apply or for more information.
The story so far – Donna’s story
Donna is the first volunteer that has been placed through the scheme. She has been volunteering at Oxfam for 3 months as a donated goods sorter and is enjoying it so much she is already thinking about doing some more voluntary work!

Oxfam received the CVS – Peggy Hughes Award this year for demonstrating best practice in volunteer management for volunteers with extra support needs as recognition for the work they have done and continue to do
You too can become involved in your community and there are many different places where you can give your time such as gardening, office work, working with animals amongst others.

The project also will support organisations who are interested in recruiting, involving and supporting volunteers with these extra support needs.
As the project goes from strength to strength I will continue to keep you up to date on any exciting developments. If you have any queries do not hesitate to contact me.
The Beginnings.....
Our Supported Volunteering Programme provides assistance to volunteers with learning difficulties.
This new project commenced on 2nd May and specifically targets the Learning Disability population of the local area who would like to volunteer in their community. Each volunteer will be initially supported in their placement and their placement will be regularly reviewed.
The project will also look at sourcing new placements as well as supporting organisations to work with individuals with a Learning Disability, offering training if required and so building an awareness of Learning Disability issues.
For more information email Michelle Hart , CVS Supported Volunteering Worker or telephone 01727 852657 for more details.
