Waitrose Community Matters
St Albans and Harpenden Waitrose stores are running a donation scheme called Community Matters. Any customer or partner can nominate a local group for support on a form available at the check-out or from the Welcome Desk. Every 6-8 weeks, partners are asked to choose 3 of the groups nominated for the following months’ collections. A labelled collecting jar is set up at check out for each of the 3 groups chosen that month.
Each customer of the store receives a token to put in the collecting jar of the group of their choice. At the end of the month, the three groups receive a proportion of £1000 depending on the number of ‘voting’ tokens received from customers. The groups concerned can opt to receive cash or goods. Groups nominated but not chosen by partners go forward for consideration to the following partners’ meeting.
Get your supporters to nominate your group and point out the fact that you are small and unknown. Wring the partners’ hearts. The reality is that only the larger charities have a strong local profile and these are the ones your average partner will have heard of. To be considered will raise your profile and to be chosen, even more so and it doesn’t cost a thing!
Are you a small local group needing funds? You can apply for up to £5,000
